What actually kills outdoor furniture in Australia
It’s rarely rain. It’s UV and salt air, if you’re anywhere near the coast.
- Direct sun, uncovered: even UV-stabilised resin will fade a shade over 3-4 years. A cheap shade sail or pergola doubles the life of the weave and the tabletop finish.
- Coastal salt: steel frames need a powder coat, not just paint, or you’ll get surface rust within a season. Wipe frames down with fresh water after a windy beach day — takes two minutes, saves you a rust patch six months later.
- Left wet: glass tabletops are fine, they don’t absorb anything. Timber-look resin slats can trap moisture in the joints if you don’t tip water off after heavy rain. A $15 outdoor cover pays for itself twice over.

The sets that get used daily are the ones set up somewhere you’ll actually walk past and sit down — not shoved in the far corner of the yard. A few things that make a real difference:
